don't have first-hand knowledge on this but i'd go with the new part (unless it's prohibitively expensive or the parts store won't accept return). i wouldn't imagine that the box has changed - i've a 98 model and the box is fastened with 4 bolts through the bottom to the frame (bolts have rubber seats). good luck - t..
